Platform Software Engineer - Ground Segment

We develop, deploy, and operate software that supports satellite operations. Our ground segment software is used internally to operate satellites on behalf of customers and is delivered as part of our product portfolio. As our satellite operations grow in scale and complexity, with more satellites, more automation, integration with external ground stations, cloud infrastructure, and increasing software deployment needs, we are looking for a Platform Software Engineer to help establish and own the operational foundation that enables reliable and secure software delivery.

This role bridges software engineering and IT operations. You will become the domain expert within the company: building practices, selecting tools, improving automation, and ensuring that our systems remain available, observable, maintainable, and secure. You will work closely with both software engineers and the IT team to evolve how software is deployed and operated across development and production environments.

Specific tasks and responsibilities include

·         Develop and introduce tooling and processes that improve software development speed, reliability, and maintainability, and alerting solutions for applications and infrastructure.

·         Evaluate, maintain, and improve the infrastructure used to run software applications and alerting solutions for applications and infrastructure.

·         Support other software engineers with deployment pipelines, automation, and operational best practices.

·         Provide and maintain continuous satellite operations by ensuring infrastructure, server, and network availability.

·         Cooperate with IT team to integrate infrastructure services such as certificates, identity providers, cloud services, and virtualization platforms.

·         Work together with the IT team such that they manage server resources and operational security practices to support current and future application needs.

·         Support troubleshooting across infrastructure, networking, and application layers.

·         Help shaping long-term operational ground software practices for the organization to ensure future operability.

Job requirements

·         3–6 years of practical experience in IT infrastructure, platform engineering, systems engineering, IT operations, or a related field.

·         Experience with VCS: Git, self-hosted Gitlab

·         Experience managing infrastructure in on-premise and/or hybrid environments.

·         Practical experience with containerized workloads (Docker or similar).

·         Understanding of virtualization concepts and managing application infrastructure.

·         Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

·         Experience implementing monitoring, observability, or operational automation solutions.

·         Comfortable making technical decisions and introducing new tools and processes where appropriate.

·         Strong ownership mindset and ability to independently investigate and solve unfamiliar technical challenges.

·         Comfortable working in a small team environment with broad responsibilities and high autonomy.

·         Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across software and IT disciplines.

Nice to haves

·         Experience with containerization: docker, podman

·         Experience with service orchestration: docker compose, docker swarm, kubernetes

·         Experience with web servers: nginx, apache http, traefik, caddy

·         Experience with message brokers: kafka, redpanda, rabbitmq

·         Experience with central identity and access management

·         Experience with service monitoring: Grafana Loki, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry

·         Experience in the space industry, satellite operations, or ground segment systems.

·         Experience operating mission-critical or high-availability environments.

·         Experience introducing DevOps practices in organizations that are scaling.

·         Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management approaches.

·         Experience working in security-conscious or regulated environments.

·         Background in software engineering (Python, C++, or related ecosystems).
